ux/ui design
Tackling misinformation online can be difficult. A google search is overwhelming if you don’t know who or what to trust. I created this app concept that allows the user to confidently and easily navigate the news, apply it to tweets, instagram posts, and more.

Problem:
Social media infrastructure has exacerbated misinformation, disinformation, and political polarization in the United States. Algorithms are designed to deliver information intended to increase their profits ultimately steering, under the guise of neutrality, the thoughts of many. While not every post shared online is inherently wrong, it often lacks valuable context.
Solution:
Navigating reliable and diverse selections of journalism on a given topic can be intimidating to the average user. This hypothetical application incorporates research on fact checking algorithms, misinformation frequencies, and the extent to which the overall UX of social media works for profit at the expense of the truth.
The design is meant to be approachable, friendly, and informative. The user is recommended articles in both the home feed and search results from a variety of journals, articles, and publications to encourage multi-perspective research on issues.
The scoring system provides individual categories such as objectivity, consistency of the publication, and hyper-partisanship, on a scale from 0-5, contributing to an overall score of 0-10. Although the result is a numerical score, the user is reminded of the nuances involved in these topics, encouraging them to explore suggested articles.
Based on a hypothetical fact checking algorithm, this app aims to promote fact checking claims and information encountered on social media, regardless of the perceived level of bias. It features articles from many journals with varying perspectives. Searching is possible through a link, keyword, or image that guides the user to a score on possible levels of bias, partisanship, and more. The user is able to save and view these articles for future reference. This app functions to not only make this process of gathering context simple, but also reinforce the thought process of recognizing the importance of context and varying perspectives.
